It’s been a couple of years since we spoke about the mysterious production trio DIICE, who last struck our ears with the icey R&B single ‘Multigold’. This week, the trifecta are back alongside frequent collaborator and vocalist Alys Williams whose cool, passive voice is the perfect match for DIICE’s slick style. The opening of ‘Chemical’ is punctuated with crisp trip-hop beats, sewn together with glassy synths and a smooth uber-modern production; it’s all topped off with Williams’ smokey, R&B vocal. As we hit the first revolution of the chorus, a jagged groove is added into the mix, somewhere between disco, house and Latin rhythms. It’s an intoxicating mix and with three singles under their belt, it’s easily their most upbeat, joyful single to date. - Hannah Thacker
